Appeal:
Let Us March Together in Solidarity with Disaster Victims for a Nuclear Weapon-Free,
Peaceful and Just World
June 5, 2011, at Aomori Railway Station PlazaDear citizens of Aomori City and Aomori Prefecture,
Dear friends of peace in Japan and all over the world,
The 2011 Nationwide Peace March against A & H Bombs is now handed over to Aomori. From today on, we will march in solidarity with the disaster victims in the eastern part of Japan, where the rehabilitation work is now undertaken. We are going to gather the voices of the people for a "nuclear weapon-free world", on our all the way through to Tokyo, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Now that 66 years have passed since August 1945 when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were A-bombed, the voices of the Hibakusha, "Nuclear weapons cannot coexist with humans" are moving the world forward. In May last year, 189 countries of the world gathered at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference and agreed to "achieve the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons." U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in his visit to Hiroshima in August called for abolishing nuclear weapons in the Hibakusha's lifetime.
